—‘Passion according to Saint John’
The performance of Bach’s Passions has become a true tradition at the Palau — a musical and spiritual ritual shared with the audience season after season. This year, the St. John Passion returns with its most direct and dramatic tone, a score that condenses the Gospel narrative into scenes of near-theatrical intensity, between austere chorales and deeply expressive arias. Peter Whelan, leading the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir, presents a faithful and committed interpretation, with Deborah Cachet heading a stellar cast. A rendition that seeks to honour the essence of this moving work at the heart of a Palau that knows and cherishes it.
