With its program, the Operettenhaus has been attracting crowds of spectators to St. Pauli for over 150 years and is now one of the largest musical theaters in Hamburg.

For over 150 years, the Operettenhaus on Spielbudenplatz has been an attractive meeting place for Hamburg residents and their guests. Founded in 1840 as the "Circus Gymnasticus" with 3,000 seats, renamed "Centralhalle" in 1864 and "Operettenhaus" in 1920, the house attracted crowds of spectators to St. Pauli with its international program as early as the turn of the century. After the Operettenhaus was almost completely burned out in the Hamburg bombing nights of 1943, it was revived as a new building on the same site. From then on, operettas, guest theater performances, revue shows and also the first musicals were performed - which have found their home here to this day.
