It was named in memory of the first bishop of Paris, Saint Denis (keeping an ancient spelling of the name of this saint called Dionysius in Latin), and in memory of the Benedictines of the Blessed Sacrament who settled there at the time of the Catholic counter-reform.

The name of Saint-Sacrement is due to what motivated the Marshal's conversion to Catholicism: the Saint-Sacrement. [ref. necessary]

The neoclassical architecture and decoration are typical of the early 19th century and very similar to Saint-Pierre-du-Gros-Caillou.

The church has two organs

It was classified as a historic monument by decree of 28 February 20141.
