Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre

The Culture and Congress Centre in Lucerne (or KKL for Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern) is a multi-functional building with a concert hall that is esteemed for its high-profile acoustics. It was built according to the plans of the architect Jean Nouvel and was inaugurated in 1998 with a concert by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Claudio Abbado.

Visitors passing through the burgundy-red gangways and anthracite passages into this brightly lit auditorium will already be in a receptive frame of mind. The senses begin to tingle: brilliant white bas-reliefs, costly wood paneling, and the starry-blue nocturnal sky lift the spirit into a symphony of moods that casts its spell on the audience even before the first note has been heard. The architect Jean Nouvel and the acoustician Russell Johnson have created a cathedral of music and sound.
