Synopsis/Details

Mendelssohn’s Elias is one of the most important oratorios of the Romantic era and a major work in the composer’s vocal repertoire. Inspired by the biblical story of the prophet Elijah, the oratorio combines powerful choral writing, expressive solo passages and dramatic orchestral music. The work explores themes of faith, conflict, prophecy and redemption, creating a rich musical narrative filled with emotional contrasts. Mendelssohn’s distinctive melodic style and refined orchestration give Elias both grandeur and intimacy. The chorus plays a particularly important role, contributing to the dramatic development and creating some of the work’s most memorable musical moments. Presented at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Elias offers audiences the opportunity to experience Mendelssohn’s remarkable approach to large-scale vocal music in a distinguished concert setting.
