The Nutcracker
Ukrainian Classical Ballet

After the success last year, the Ukrainian Classical Ballet returns to the stage of the Politeama Rossetti with its wonderful “The Nutcracker,” which will, of course, be one of the scheduled events during the Christmas season.

The charm of this title from the great Romantic repertoire remains unchanged. Commissioned to Tchaikovsky in 1892 for the Russian Imperial Theatres, the composer drew inspiration for the score from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” creating a masterpiece of color and poetry, lyricism and enchantment. The story, told “on pointe,” takes place at Christmas and centers on a young girl, Clara, who receives a small wooden nutcracker as a gift. After the celebrations, Clara falls asleep under the Christmas tree and dreams… Her little soldier comes to life, becomes flesh and blood, and she embarks on dreamlike adventures, perhaps a metaphor for the passage to adulthood.

The Ukrainian Classical Ballet presents its own version of the ballet, faithful to the original in terms of narrative and choreography, and enriched visually with modern sets, sumptuous decorations, luminous costumes, and captivating video projections: a choice that makes the performance as enchanting as tradition dictates, while also more contemporary in its staging.

The company’s dancers will be impeccable, including internationally renowned soloists from prestigious European theatres, selected specifically for this new engagement in Trieste.
