Black music and gripping gospel – services celebrated as only in the United States.
The feeling of Harlem, St. Louis, and Jersey will captivate you.
In a festive pre-Christmas atmosphere, you will hear the most famous songs from the repertoire of The Christmas Gospel. The selected voices of The Christmas Gospel present them with unmatched intensity and quality.
The early years
The roots of Black gospel and spirituals go back to the early 18th century, when African slaves in a foreign land – America – created their first English-language hymns. At that time, they still preserved their own moral values and religious beliefs.
The history of the ensemble
For almost twenty years we traveled across the United States to proclaim the good news in churches and theaters. During this time, I had the privilege of experiencing some of the finest gospel singers America has to offer. But wherever my journeys took me, I always kept my ears open.
In my own community in Harlem, the dream was born to bring together some of the best American gospel singers as one group, so they could share their spiritual fire with brothers and sisters in Europe. Thanks to the help of our producers and organizers, we are now able to live this dream.
When the singers of The Christmas Gospel raise their crystal-clear voices to the highest registers at both the opening and the close of the concert, a shiver regularly runs through the audience. This is the spirit of gospel – is the opinion often heard about the performance of The Christmas Gospel.
But of course, gospel classics such as Oh Happy Day, Amazing Grace, and When the Saints are also part of the ensemble’s repertoire, which above all convinces through the balance of women’s and men’s voices.
Gospel – classical and modern soul ballads – emotion and temperament unite here to create a fascinating experience. The diverse stage experience of The Christmas Gospel, together with their renowned good instinct in selecting singers, makes us expect sold-out churches and concert halls on their upcoming 2025 Austria tour, after more than 500 concerts in Germany and Austria between 2000 and 2024.
It is a concert – but the atmosphere of the famous services of the Black Churches makes the audience on the grand 2025 Austria tour become part of the community. It is this joyful spirituality that makes the concerts of The Christmas Gospel an extraordinary event.
