It is thanks to her that the clarinet, long underestimated as a solo instrument, has reclaimed its place on the concert stage.
Born in Crailsheim, Sabine Meyer initially pursued an orchestral career after studying in Stuttgart and Hanover and became a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. She later held the position of principal clarinetist with the Berlin Philharmonic, which she soon left – not least because she was increasingly in demand as an international soloist.
Over more than 30 years, she has performed countless concerts as well as radio and television appearances in all major music centers around the world. As an authority in her field, Sabine Meyer has appeared with over 300 orchestras and is renowned for her uniquely breathing, blooming tone.
Berlin has also regularly honored the “Queen of the Clarinet” with guest appearances – and now, at the end of her incomparable career, with a farewell concert:
On December 4, Sabine Meyer will be seen for the last time in the capital, performing together with the Armida Quartet.
