Inspired by the 1976 film of the same name, winner of three Academy Awards, the musical tells a story of the triumph of spirit, strength, and love. From the streets of Philadelphia to the legendary ring, with equal parts grit and heart, the musical is full of poetry, beautiful songs written by a Broadway master, and stunning ensemble numbers. Rocky is a breathtaking musical, with music and lyrics by Tony Award winners and Oscar nominees Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and a book by Tony Award-winning Thomas Meehan, adapted from the acclaimed Oscar-nominated screenplay by Sylvester Stallone, who is also among the show’s creators.
Rocky Balboa is a small-time Philadelphia boxer chosen to face Apollo Creed, the reigning heavyweight champion, who was supposed to fight another champion suddenly injured. As Rocky trains with passion and discipline for the fight, he begins a relationship with Adrian, a fragile clerk at a small pet shop, tired of being mistreated by her brother. As their love grows, Rocky and Adrian each discover their inner strength and bring out the best in each other. With equal parts grit and heart, Rocky is a story of the triumph of spirit, strength, and love.
