MNOZIL BRASS – STRAU$$ | Pop-Rock-Jazz-World
An evening with Mnozil Brass is a unique experience: virtuosity, theatre, irony, and music in its purest form. Absolute icons for musicians, they are the most virtuosic and acrobatic brass band in the world, founded in Vienna in 1996. They are loved and acclaimed worldwide for their original and unmistakable blend of comedy and extraordinary musical virtuosity, ranging from classical to folk to contemporary pop. After more than three decades of legendary performances combining virtuosity, humour, and musical theatre, the inimitable Mnozil Brass return to Italy with their brand-new and extraordinary show STRAU$$, a brilliant and irreverent tribute to the world of Johann Strauss.
The activity of this remarkable ensemble began almost by chance in 1992, in Vienna’s First District, at the Gasthaus Mnozil, the tavern opposite the University of Music and Performing Arts (Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst), frequented by musicians, singers, and enthusiasts of every musical genre. Seven young brass players who had come to Vienna for university studies chose that tavern as their place for gathering and musical discussion. Traditional folk music soon transformed into brass music—often improvised—capable of adapting to any situation: from tradition to modern hits, from jazz to pop, from opera to operetta. They played for years in total freedom, and for this very reason, their style—unique and unmistakable—developed naturally, without external pressure, always guided by the joy of making music together. From 1996 onward, Mnozil Brass began performing regularly, first in Austria, then in Switzerland and Germany; today they perform in major theatres and concert halls worldwide, from London’s Royal Albert Hall to the Munich Opera House, including the KKL in Lucerne. With more than 130 concerts per year, they have become absolute icons and points of reference for musicians all over the world. The ensemble is composed of Thomas Gansch, Robert Rother, and Roman Rindberger on trumpet, Leonhard Paul on trombone and bass trumpet, Gerhard Füssl and Zoltan Kiss on trombone, and Wilfried Brandstötter on tuba.
