Madeleine Joel & The Hildeguards 'Tapetenwechsel – Happy Birthday, Hilde' (A)

Bringing the legendary Knef’s song treasures into a new light once again: this is the mission Madeleine Joel & The Hildeguards have embraced with their anniversary program Tapetenwechsel.

On December 28, 2025, Hildegard Knef would have celebrated her 100th birthday. With the release of the single Prosit Neujahr on December 28 of the previous year—exactly one year before her centenary—Madeleine Joel and her internationally acclaimed band The Hildeguards ushered in the anniversary year. Throughout the year, singles from the new album Tapetenwechsel will be released. These modern interpretations, glamorously rearranged in jazz and pop-electronic styles, will captivate listeners.

Guest duet partners include entertainer and singer Viktor Gernot, actress Ulrike Beimpold, and multi-instrumentalist Herbert Pixner.

Since the premiere of their first concert program Alles oder Nichts in June 2022, Madeleine Joel & The Hildeguards have thrilled audiences with their jazzy reinterpretations of Knef's songs. The album, released by Hoanzl, became a bestseller and received overwhelming critical acclaim, bringing great media attention to singer and saxophonist Madeleine Joel. In tribute concerts, audiences have been captivated by the sextet's multi-layered quality and successful reinterpretations.

In the second program, Tapetenwechsel, American pianist Rob Bargad again takes on the role of arranger, skillfully bringing Knef’s classics into today's musical language. The core concert is performed by the sextet, but some songs are interpreted by smaller formations (duo, trio, quartet). The band’s sound varies, revealing a broad sonic palette and diverse moods. Joel performs as both singer and saxophonist. Starting in April 2025, Madeleine Joel & The Hildeguards will tour the German-speaking region (Austria/Germany/Switzerland) presenting their new program.
