The record-breaking musical returns to Italy in its original version!

CATS, Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic masterpiece, arrives in its original West End version at the TAM Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan. One of the most beloved shows of all time, with unforgettable music, breathtaking choreography, and the timeless "Memory."
Based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats," this "revolutionary musical" (Daily Express) comes to life in a dazzling fusion of music, dance, and verse. CATS is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history.
Its world premiere was at the New London Theatre (now known as the Gillian Lynne Theatre) in 1981, where it ran for a record 21 years, nearly 9,000 performances, winning the Olivier Award® and Evening Standard Award® for Best Musical.
Since then, CATS has been performed in over 54 countries, translated into 23 languages, and seen by over 77 million people worldwide. The show ran on Broadway for eighteen years, winning seven Tony Awards®, including Best Musical. The original West End and Broadway cast recordings both won Grammy Awards® for Best Cast Album. Lloyd Webber's classic score includes "Memory," one of the most iconic songs in musical theater history, recorded by over 150 artists, including Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Liberace, and Barry Manilow.
The original production of CATS came to Italy for the first time in 1995 at the Palatrussardi in Milan, presented by the then Teatro Smeraldo, an event that marked a turning point in the spread of this great international musical in our country.
This new Italian tour, which will stop in Trieste and Milan, will be a unique opportunity for audiences to rediscover the magic of the original version of CATS. A long-awaited and extraordinary return that celebrates the enduring allure of a timeless masterpiece of musical theatre.

Program and cast

Teatro degli Arcimboldi di Milano

The Teatro degli Arcimboldi is a theatre and opera house in Milan which was built over a twenty-seven month period in anticipation of the closure and subsequent nearly three-year long renovation of Milan's La Scala opera house in December 2001. It is located 4.5 miles from the city centre in an abandoned Pirelli tire factory, in an area known as Bicocca.[1]

Designed by Vittorio Gregotti working with architects Mario Botta and Elisabetta Fabbri, the fan-shaped 2,375 seat auditorium, created on two levels, was planned to allow for the continuation of La Scala's 2001/2002 opera season and it was inaugurated with a performance of Verdi's La traviata on 19 January 2002.

An unfortunate accident closed the theatre for seventeen days in February 2001, but it reopened and became the La Scala company's venue until the renovated opera house reopened on its traditional day, 7 December, in 2004.

Performances of many different types of music are still given at the Arcimboldi.
