‘To Amy’
Andrea Motis grew up studying and performing the music of jazz icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and Sarah Vaughan, among many others. But there's one artist she feels particularly close to, as her music served almost as a form of therapy during a difficult personal time between the ages of 15 and 18: “I listened to Amy Winehouse's music, and I felt like she was right there with me, like a friend trying to comfort me through a personal healing process.” “I uded to play her music in the mornings”, Motis continues, “and it made me feel so empowered. I saw myself in everything she expressed—sadness, anger, sorrow—but also the rebellious spirit to overcome it all and keep moving forward. I owed her that tribute”. The result is this heartfelt and genuine debut: To Amy. Joining Motis on this journey are the Barcelona Gospel Messengers, conducted by Ramon Escalé, in a full performance. A powerful collaboration that promises an intense and unforgettable evening at the festival.
