The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol, created by the choreographer and director Youri Vámos is a great hit among our ballet lovers, as its magic conjures up to them the festive atmosphere every single Christmas and New Year Holiday.

“It is a performance with a proper extent of shiny snowing, charm and jolliness, offering fluttery feelings of expectation that we all just need for the season.”

One of the most beautiful ballet fairy tales – conceived by the librettist Marius Petipa after Dumas’s adaptation of Hoffman’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King – was upgraded by the choreographer and director with the timeless story A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens.

The main character is a stingy misanthrope, who hates Christmas. His nightmares make him aware of all the wrong that he has caused in his life, so he repents and turns into a loving and generous man.

This performance – delivering a deep message about how kindness and compassion towards others can make a person happy – was put on the stage of the Ljubljana Opera Theatre more than 180 times. Nevertheless, it keeps filling the auditorium to the very last seat, not only because it is a genuine candy shop for children’s imaginative world, but also a picturesque performance for all those, who enjoy beautiful music and ballet virtuosity.

This performance, which will be revived again on the stage of the renovated Ljubljana Opera Theatre, will feature Ballet Soloists and Ballet Ensemble of the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, Pupils of the Ljubljana Ballet Conservatoire and Women’s Choir and Orchestra of the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana. Sets and costumes, adapted by the Theatre Studio of the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and the Slovenian National Theatre Drama Ljubljana, were originally made in the Hanover Lower Saxon State Theatre.

Theatre Dress Code

Our dress code is primarily a way to express our respect to performers, other visitors and ourselves. In former times, a formal suit and tie for gentlemen and a smart dress for ladies were required, when visiting theatre, opera and ballet performances or concerts. In present times, the rules are not so strict any more, however, we would advise you against wearing casual or sporting clothes in the theatre.

The cloakrooms are located in the Lower Lobby and on the Dress Circle level.
